| Dear Sharon,
Thank you for sharing your love of writing through your book presentation of The Snowman, the Owl, and the Groundhog. My second graders were completely enthralled with the story and your tale of how it came to be. The visuals you brought in (the actual manuscripts, paintings, etc.)brought the entire process to life for the children. Most importantly, your
uplifting message of following your dreams was so inspiring for the children.
Thank you again. You did a great job....we can't wait to find out about
your next project!
Sincerely,
Joy Schmitz

My third and fourth graders were fortunate enough to have participated in a"Meet the Author" presentation, featuring Sharon Debowski, author of
The Snowman, the Owl, and the Groundhog.
The students learned the following:
1. The art of writing a book, from idea to publication.
2. The role of an illustrator and their importance to the author.
3.The job of an editor.
4. The importance of researching your competition
5.Print and picture format requirements in a book..i.e.,*action is left to right* and *opening words of story on right side of page*
7. The students learned that they needed to have math skills to figure outgoing expenses versus incoming profits.
And finally, and most importantly, Mrs. Debowski did a writing exercise with the students that in the end, gave them the motivation to follow their hearts and their dreams, just like she did!

Dear Miss Sharon,
I thank you for the wonderful talk you gave this afternoon. I really enjoyed learning how you could publish a book. It sounds like hard work!
I loved looking at the artwork, and the mock copies were certainly interesting!
Thank you again!

| Sharon's presentation was much more than I expected and what I've experienced. She was inspiring the children to think big. It even allowed me to look into my children's honest responses to her questions.
